Founded in January 2019 by the complementary duo of Brent Leo-Smith and Wium Dörnbrack, Painted Dog TV is a technology-driven wildlife and conservation film production company.
With over 30 years of combined wildlife, conservation and film-making experience, and based in the wild heartland of South Africa bordering the famous Kruger National Park, Painted Dog TV is perfectly positioned and equipped to keep pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a wildlife media company in Africa.
Founder, Managing Director
Brent Leo-Smith, Founder and Managing Director: Brent has spent his entire life in African conservation areas.
After finishing high school he worked as a safari guide, camp manager, camp builder and staff trainer.
Then in 2010, Brent began work on wildlife film productions both behind and in-front of the camera, having featured on Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild, where he presented over 50 episodes of the Nat Geo Wild SafariLive series.
Founder, Operations Manager
Wium Dornbrack, Founder and Operations Manager: Wium began his career as a cameraman for the South African Broadcasting Commission (SABC) for six years from 2008-14.
In 2014 he became a senior member of the NatGeo Wild SafariLive production team until 2018.
At SafariLive not only was Wium a cameraman capturing world-class wildlife footage, but he was also a broadcast engineer designing and building camera caging systems, broadcasting systems, including outside broadcast units onboard 4x4 safari vehicles.
Charles Collocott, Financial Director: Charles graduated from the University of Cape Town with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 2005.
He then spent over 10 years at some of South Africa’s leading financial services companies, during which he also acquired the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Most recently before joining Painted Dog TV, Charles worked as a researcher for over three years at one of the country’s preeminent government policy think-tanks, the Helen Suzman Foundation.
